Reflections on our latest launch

The Plastiq team is rebooting through an intense yet fulfilling launch. I am reflecting on the things that helped us through the way. Some gotchas that possibly could help your teams as they prepare for climbing their own next big rollout.

* 🚴🚴 Share ownership for higher cross functional alignment. Teams that have “skin in the game” will always find better ways to align with each other and make a collective push to market. This is a force multiplier and needs to happen from the get-go.

* 🔧 Actively retrospect. Great companies are built by teams making hundreds and thousands of small improvements over time. Every single tweak adds up. It is a slow but compounding process. Which is why retrospectives coupled with diligent absorption and follow up action are game changers over time.

* 🎤 Squash Indecisiveness – it is a silent killer. Making decisions can be nerve wrecking because tradeoffs are hard and owning outcomes in ambiguity is scary. Which is why teams can often resort to delaying making hard decisions. The cost of “waiting for direction” is high and poisonous to morale and efficiency.

* 🌴 Finally, tend to your teams. Let’s not forget what the world around us is going through around us. Respect and take care of the people who are giving their 101% through this turmoil. Setup cooling periods, or rotating mandatory days off after launch. Use lighter activities like monitoring and maintenance etc and give the teams enough space to recharge.
